I’ve been doing Home Improvements full time since 2003. Before that I was a keen DIY-er having done most things around the house, including construction, renovation, plumbing, electrics, carpentry, decorating and the thousand a one other things around the home. I’ve rebuilt car engines, and have a keen interest in mechanics and electronics. I’ve always aimed to repair things starting from a young age repairing friends toys, and I’ve never stopped.
Before doing this full time I worked in software, mostly defence and safety critical systems. This included aircraft, C3I systems, radar and air traffic control systems. I’ve worked with both Unix and Windows Systems, so smart home equipment is relatively straight forward.
And before all that I studied Cybernetics and Control Engineering at Reading, which is the study of Systems Engineering . This involved the study of electronic, chemical, mechanical and biological systems. So it involved having a working knowledge of many different disciplines. As Spock would say “Fascinating”.

Hobbies

I have a keen interest in Scuba Diving in which I am an advanced instructor with the BSAC and have also been an Instructor trainer running the Southern regions Open Water Instructor Courses and exams for over 15 years. My favourite place to dive in the world is the Isles of Scilly, it has a huge number of shipwrecks from the earliest know in 1305 to the latest in 1997, combined with some of the most amazing scenery, flora and fauna both above and below the water.
I play Octopush which is underwater hockey which is a great sport let me know if you want a go!
I’m currently active with the Scouts helping out with the 1st Lower Earley Scouts on Thursdays, teaching valuable life skills such as bike maintenance, Map reading and navigation, Weather, Astronomy, Camping and Walking, Axe and Knife skills. I also help out with 89th Reading to take scouts down their Chalk Mine.
